I've been tortured for a list of what I think is pisspoor and what I think would cross-over. I'd like you to note this....that what I think works is not always what I like. DHT is not included.

Dance that could crossover (this comes off the top of my head).

1. David Guetta - World is Mine
2. Jenn Cuneta - Come Rain, Come Shine
3. ATB - Esctacy
4. David Morales - How Would You Feel. Noted: ONLY the Peter R remix of this. The orginal radio remix just doesn't have it.
--
Close to crossover

Bodyrockers - Way you move. Would also do well on progressive non rock alternative stations.

Deep Dish - Say Hello. Good song, moody, dark, infectious, but I don't think it has it to hit the Hot 40

Audio Bullies. Another "alternative" song that crosses into Dance. If American Alt rock still played Alternative music, it would be commonplace.

---

The rest:

My feelings vary on stuff from Mynt to Milky. I like Milky, but I don't think it's "top quality". I do think it's a good song. But Mynt, Shape UK, Tess, Reina, etc...all second class. I may like the songs, but I don't think they have what it takes. They are...filler. They are not something I'd try to market to non dance listeners by showing them "the coolest we have to offer"

Most ignored song:

Bass Bumpers - Crazy Frog. This is Eiffel 65s - Blue of 2005. Play it. Is the song stupid and mindless? Yes. But is the song infectious? Very much so. This is that one hit wonder that dance needs right now, because it gets people to talk. Most of all, there are people that will hate this song, but hating a song is good, because it at least shows some element of emotion on the listener. That's much better than someone without any opinions. Crazy Frog won't last and 10 yrs from now will be on MTV's "worst 1 hit wonders of 2005", but so what. Right now, it's funny, annoying, groovy and it grabs attention.

I went over 4 years of dance music charts I have (some are my own). I've come to the conclusion that the past 6 months have been the worst in this format. Even worse than the dark days of 2001.

My email is [email protected] I do reply.

I've heard the Crazy Frog - Axel F version on quite a few radio stations. I
think this song has the potential to be the next Blue, no matter how
annoying some people may find it

As appalled as I was to hear it, Crazy Frog was aired in rotation today on the local CHR station here during the midday drive. That makes 2 dance songs (the other being DHT) currently on the radio here. That's pretty significant compared to this time a year ago.

I like The Bodyrockers song to crossover. It's been airing a lot on TV here in the Coke ad they've been running, I could certainly see it gaining additional momentum with some club play and then breaking out into the mainstream. Time will tell.

X,

Apologies on the "torture" - I was merely trying to spark a dialogue on the state of current dance music, the one point which the two of us seem to strongly disagree over. My thanks in advance for contributing your thoughts on the following titles.

> 1. David Guetta - World is Mine

Agreed. The Deep Dish mix sounds *great* on the air (or at least it does on XM). Though I can see why mainstream radio would hold this one at arm's length.

> 2. Jenn Cuneta - Come Rain, Come Shine

Agreed. This could easily have been a contender for the same kind of success DHT is currently enjoying.

> 3. ATB - Esctacy

Here I disagree - or rather, I'd think of this one as a coin flip, mostly because ATB's released better material previously that hasn't crossed over.

> 4. David Morales - How Would You Feel. Noted: ONLY the
> Peter R remix of this. The orginal radio remix just doesn't
> have it.

Agreed on both points.

> Bodyrockers - Way you move. Would also do well on
> progressive non rock alternative stations.

Agreed. If a few mainstream radio programmers were willing to take a gamble on this one, I think they'd be pleasantly surprised with the results.

> Deep Dish - Say Hello. Good song, moody, dark, infectious,
> but I don't think it has it to hit the Hot 40

Agreed. "Flashdance" would've been a slightly better contender, moreso for alternative radio though than pop radio.

> Audio Bullies. Another "alternative" song that crosses into
> Dance. If American Alt rock still played Alternative music,
> it would be commonplace.

Another coin flip. Audio Bullys have released some great music in years past, but radio has never really latched on despite Astralwerks' repeated attempts to market the act to alternative radio.

> But Mynt, Shape UK, Tess, Reina, etc...all
> second class. I may like the songs, but I don't think they

On Mynt and Shape UK, I'd disagree - the others I don't really have well-formed opinions on as I honestly don't know them thoroughly. Beyond that, my only other comment here is that there's much worse filler to be found circulating these days...

I agree. The "Axel F" variation is already making inroads to mainstream pop radio, and may very well find the same kind of success that DHT is currently having.

> I went over 4 years of dance music charts I have (some are

I think this is one point where we'll simply have to agree to disagree...

The past 6-10 months may not have served up the ultimate plate of mainstream dance music, but the music that's been released has been *far* from rancid. My own mixshows and playlists have been peppered with a healthy dose of mainstream dance records and remixes (Juliet, The Killers, Stonebridge, George Michael, Madison Park, Reflekt, among others) that have shown some serious promise in many instances.

And in glancing back at my own playlists, the year or two prior to mid/late 2004 (and possibly going back slightly further) failed to yield much that I'd really be willing to hang my own hat on. To each their own; nonetheless, I appreciate and thank you again for your thoughts and comments on this subject.

I did not include mainstream records. the reason was...the idea of the record was not about dance, but bout whatever format it fit in.

Granted, there are ALOT of remixes of pop songs lately. More than have been in years...and I attribute that entirely to Sirius and XM radio. That's my guess anyway. If any of the label guys out there could comment, I'd appreciate.

Half of Sirius 66 is remixes of pop songs.

I wish Madison Park had more impact. I have the Boutique CD in regular rotation in my personal music and I LOVE the remixes that The Source does for their radio releases. They really deserve more attention.

Reflekt = amazing. It's still the most listened to track on my system.

I'm still all about Put Em High from Stonebridge. There are no dance clubs where I am so we went to one in Pittsburgh...kind of disappointed I didn't hear Stonebridge but I did hear a lot of the other artists mentioned here.<P ID="signature">______________

That Lenny B song is pretty good. It's not excellent but it grows on you.

I like those acts. I think they have a chance to still break out and crossover to other charts. One has to wonder whats holding them back.

I agree. That one is hot.

Another pair of track that looks like it has potential is Black Rock's "Bluewater" and The Freeloaders' "So Much Love To Give."

Divinyls did the original, guess its what, 10 years now? I can see it having appeal in the Euromarkets or to Freestyle fans.

103.5 hasn't pumped or dumped it.
