Alan Frio says that it was part of the nationwide Meredith cuts.

Longtime Channel 4 weekend anchor Alan Frio said Monday he is "disappointed" he was laid off Thursday as part of nationwide "cost-control" measures from the station's parent company, Meredith Corporation.

"I found out in a brief phone call on my day off that I was no longer at Channel 4," Frio said in a text message sent to the Tennessean.

"I felt I was making a worthwhile contribution as weekend managing editor, anchor, and weekday reporter," he wrote. "I saved the company money by anchoring all of the weekend newscasts for three years.

"I regret I didn't have a chance to say goodbye to the people I have enjoyed working with."
