Advice For Potential Applicants

Before you pay anyone to file an F.C.C. application for you,
type his or her name into Google's search box and find out
if that person has been in jail and/or has been convicted
of a crime involving money. If your search is positive, be
aware that disregarding this advice could cause you to lose
your money and not have your application filed.

Don't they change their name often?
Wouldn't they have a fake name that will be googled as "reliable source"
A site of some sort that they set up under that fake name?
Then change the name when they see fit?

Sizing up a potential vendor is a two-way, and push-pull transaction.

Yes, by all means check for bad news... like time in jail, etc.

But, also look for good news. A reputable vendor will be able to furnish you with a list of past customers. Contact them. Ask about the vendor. While you are in contact with those past customers... pick their brains for great ideas on how to get your station off the ground, ideas on how to have long term success and viability.

Yes, I know of such an engineering service that specifically targets LPFM and he is highly dishonest.

One suggestion would be to look at the applications of licensed LPFM stations and see who the applicants used to do their engineering. Also, as I understand it, under Texas law it is unlawful for an engineer in that state to submit an FCC application for a client. They can fill in the engineering section but either a broadcast lawyer or the applicant must make sure the application is complete and file it.

One could also check for current criminal complaints filed against those who take money under the pretense of filing F.C.C. applications.

Didn't this happen on CSI:Miami? Some investment guy hitting on cougars, multiple website intro pages, same format, different names?
Most criminals are not that bright, and they kind of depend on you not looking too hard anyway, and they don't get too involved in their scams to go to those lengths. They tend to hit it and quit it, and move on to the next scam.

Without hiring an F.C.C. attorney, you could also type in the name of an "engineer/consultant" that you may be considering using, in the search block of the F.C.C.'s web site and see who comes up.
