101.1 K Earth

For the past 15 years or so, I had to come to Los Angeles at least once every year for business and I would listen to 101.1 K Earth. I've noticed that the sound of the station has changed since I began to come to the area in the early 1990s. Now it is sounding it's worst. It is a shame that a once great station is sounding like crap now.<P ID="signature">______________

Hi ya:
K-RTH was a good station and far different in the early 1990s. Also, it had compitition from KCBS and KRLA oldies stations. But, K-RTH is facing what a majority of oldies stations are facing, and that is a push away from oldies, or at least away from the 50's format and more focused on the 60s & 70s era. I use too think KRTH was one of the worse stations in the oldies format but after hearing about a dozen FM oldies stations through out the USA in the last two years, I feel K-RTH is the best one too try and stay focused on just oldies as of 2005. K-RTH references themselves too the 1960s and doesn't harp up the whole "we're 70s now ha ha ha" stuff...a majority of their music comes from the 1960s and they'll play an occasiona pre-1964 tune. Their 1970s playlist doesn't go much past 1973/74.
A few years back KRTH dabbled in the late 1970s, early 1980s music and they pulled back from that format and returned too a 60s format. K-RTH trys, I have to give them credit. There was a time when oldies was king in the Los Angeles areas with K-RTH,K-ODJ/K-CBS,K-RLA,K-OLA,K-FRC. Now only K-RTH and K-OLA remains...K-FRC is an AM/FM San Francisco station but one thats gone more into FM in recent; I'm not sure if the signal still picks up in LA at night. I use too hear K-FRC at night on the AM band down here in Los Angeles. I loved that old "MORE OLDIEEES, K-FRC" jingle that they had in early 1990s lol.
When I was a kid, I would listen to K-RTH and K-ODJ/K-CBS in Los Angeles & W-CBS in New York. Now, I pretty much only use XM and Sirius.

Regards,
Anthony--

Sadly KFRC-AM has been sold to a company specializing in religious programming.
KFRC-FM is still an oldies station, but like KRTH, rumors abound about how long that will last. I heard an oldies station in Las Vegas last year that sounded really good, and KOLA in San Bernardino still does a fine job as well. But the good ones are few and far between.

I don't understand all the K-Earth bashing! I listened in last night and the early hours of this morning and really liked their play list.
The same great jingles that I remember remain there and love em!

KRTH bashing

I think that's the point. How often do you listen? Sounds like not often. Were you a more frequent listener who moved to something else? That's what a lot of folks have done.

This loss of cume is only exacerbated by their TSL decline. (Dapyart recycling tends to be reduced when you have a 300-song playlist. Not to mention 7-minute stopsets, but that's a whole 'nother subject.)

ok, I see that there is a small playlist. What is the problem with making it a much larger playlist? Do they have a response to why they haven't changed for the better?
