    AM Radio Directional Antennas and their History

    Every so often there are questions here about why AM stations can't raise power, or why they have different coverage at night than in the daytime.

    I found this article on Radio World by noted broadcast historian John Schneider and it's a fantastic illustrated history from the first directional station 90 years ago:

    That was indeed a fascinating read. Thanks for posting!

    Interesting tidbit I took away from it was that only one radio engineer has EVER
    served as FCC chair. A bit mind-boggling when you think about it.

    Also interesting to me is how my two old hometown stations WGR 550 and WWKB 1520 Buffalo both directional (WGR night only) share the same transmitter site and even have 1 tower in common.
    Out of the money demo...all the way out!
