Hey Sarge

Most 90's Nirvana and Pearl Jam songs are included in the Classic Rock genre. Eagles, America, Doors, Heart, etc., are considered Oldies.
 
"Beds Are Burning" by Midnight Oil played today at 2:40pm. Another in the long line of --Is it Classic Rock?
 
Why wouldn't it be? It does, however, seem odd to hear that on KZOK, as they traditionally haven't been playing songs like that.
 
In the scope of rock over the last 40 years. The popular and influential stuff was alternative as mainstream rock slowly faded away. So it's really only natural for Classic Rock to eventually latch onto the less synthy end of it.

"Never Say Never" Romeo Void, "Ship of Fools" World Party and "Reptile" The Church sounds right at home as "Hard To Handle" Black Crowes on KZOK.

It is important to remember that Seattle was never really a very "rhythmic" market, atleast until KUBE changed in the 90's. The top40's tended to lean rock or rock/pop/modern for lack of a better term. KPLZ, and even KUBE in the 80's were very pop-focused and avoided anything too rhythmic. This is important to some extent on how classic rock/hits look at the market today. While not everyone who consumes radio today in the Seattle market was here during this era, there is still that baseline listenership that still exists. So what works in Seattle is not necessarily what works in LA or Chicago or New York. Smart programmers understand this, and use it to their advantage.

KISW played it when it was popular. It was on rock radio here. I remember hearing it on KISW back in the 80's, and I was listening to KISW daily at the time.
