What I notice is no original content, other than the Hot 20 countdown.

Viacom & their cable nets seem to be operating on auto pilot.

Thank goodness I have about two hours of CMT music videos from 1991 on a VHS tape to enjoy. Back in those days, they had only one program 24/7 - country music videos! Wow. Who'd would have thought? Lol.
    782 AM's in the log, 663 FMs (250 from Western WA), That's a DXer!
FM, AM and SW DXer of Yakima, WA! God Bless America!
Last New FM Log: KATW-101.5 Lewiston ID, 6/25/19
Last New AM Log: 1570 WFRL Freeport IL, 3/3/19

Unless you happen to be a fan of the current music, which some people are.

CMT's main cable competitor is GAC Great American Country. For many years, this channel offered hours of original music programming, and its own Top 20 countdown. Then it branched into reality TV. Now its overseen by it's corporate sister HGTV, and has become a country lifestyle channel:

    https://www.greatamericancountry.com/shows/tv-schedule

To their credit, there is original programming, not just off network reruns. But there is no music content to speak of any more.

The last channel standing in the country world is RFD-TV:

This is where you go for Hee Haw reruns and that sort of thing. But the weekdays are filled with shows about horses and farms.

Last I knew CMT has a 24 hour music video channel called CMT Pure. It's not available on DirecTV.

CMT Pure changed its name to CMT Music two years ago. It is a 24/7 video channel. It's available on DISH and most cable systems.

How Many People are actually watching CMT when Music Video's are on though. I Bet the audience size is way less when Music videos are on though given that the current leaders in the recording industry use concert sales, youtube audience size and others . I can completely understand why CMT has to air Movies and sitcoms though in todays content environment.
