Mighty 1090 Leaves The Air

Former Mighty 1090 Afternoon Drive host Scott Kaplan is hoping to get sports talk radio back on 1090 AM as early as August 1st this year.

On his Youtube/Facebook/Twitch/TuneIn webcast from the Callaway Studios, he talked about last week on how he met with the owners of the tower in Mexico and wanting to form a partnership with them to get this project off the ground.

On his social media debate site Sided, he ask listeners for their opinion on what the new station on 1090 AM should be called.

After Scott Kaplan couldn't get the deal to work a few months ago, he reports on his daily podcast that someone in town has signed a deal with the mexican-owners of the transmitter, and a re-branded 1090 will be back on the air sometime soon.

1090 apparently has been operating at reduced power for weeks... maybe months. Signal strength at my location is down from levels when they still had sports talk.

Any effort to bring back a sports station in this environment must be funded by people with money to burn.

Planning to relaunch San Diego radio station 1090-AM but with less sports content, the owner of an Arizona advertising agency has obtained broadcast rights to the far-reaching radio signal that beams from Baja California.Bill Hagen, the buyer, said Sunday the former sports-talk station known as The Mighty 1090, which fell off the airwaves last April for financial reasons, will be recast as The Mightier 1090.
This summer, if not sooner, is the target date for the launch, Hagen said.
