PLJ SOLD

Maybe the very last song WPLJ could play would be the very first song that graced their airwaves. Or even the very first song that was every played on that frequency back in 1948 when it went on the air as WJZ. Or from when it was WABC.

EMF won't take over 95.5 until the sale closes - probably sometime in June.

As for Cumulus tweaking PLJ's format now, they're probably either doing some training for programming folks or some near-time research using a soon-to-be-extinct facility. They may have just concluded some off-air music testing and want to give it an on-air test. It costs them nothing at this point.

They already now have a Saturday Night retro show. If they are smart, perhaps they should also tweak it to include more disco music from the '70s and early '80s, similar to the one that is used on WOGL in Philly airing around the same night. Call it "Studio 95.5". This idea will be great now that CBS-FM and KTU doesn't air much disco anymore...

That would be a blatant copy of WEBE 108's "Studio 108" show -- ironic, because in the '90s, Scott & Todd accused WEBE of copying their "phone scams", which they in turn parodied as "Wacky WEBE 108":

If that could even be found somewhere and completely intact in the depths of 2 Penn Plaza...
 
Would Cumulus might shut off the 94.3 translator in Ponoma and would they relaunch Radio 103.9 as the new 103.9 WFAS! Would they relocate its transmitter back to White Plains! If they do, then 100.7 WHUD (a 50,000-watt FM station based out of Fishkill, NY) might have to prepare for competition anytime soon if this happens

Why would they move the signal BACK to where it was? And BACK to WFAS-FM? They "improved" the signal into NYC proper, even though they barely get ratings. The stick is much more valuable where it is.

Also the studio is in Penn Plaza, shared with WABC and the Cumulus corporate offices.

There is no advertising market for a very partial coverage of NYC and the boroughs. There is a market at the local level for a Westchester station, although not what there might have been several decades ago.

Why? Given the coverage, it would likely be a no-show in the book with that format on a suburban Class A signal.

I agree, but perhaps some of the talent might appear on other stations. They have Jayde doing VT for some other stations already. Maybe a few others will get work that way.
 
Here's a thought....since EMF ALREADY HAS an NYC affiliate (WKLV, on 96.7 FM), might it be possible that PLJ moves over there in a frequency swap? As previously indicated, Cumulus will still own the intellectual property of WPLJ after the change-over.

If there was a frequency swap, wouldn't it have been announced as part of the deal? The way the WNSH swap was?

No, EMF is keeping both stations.

WKLV does not have a competitive signal in the NYC metro. Never going to happen.

And EMF has other formats they can put on the second, inferior, signal.
