Alpha Sells Biloxi MS Cluster to TeleSouth Communications

EMF, or some other nonprofit entity more than likely. I would bet on EMF buying it, as they currently have no presence in the Biloxi-Gulfport area, other than what listeners receive from WLVM out of Mobile. A class A in Biloxi such as WXYK would help fill in the signal gaps of whatever WLVM doesn't cover.

Telesouth will be beyond their market cap with this purchase and The Monkey will be divested.

I can't imagine who'd want a little pea shooter standalone FM.

and i was surprised they were divesting an FM and keeping two AM's.... i guess they dont wanna compete with the big 100kw 95.3 The gorilla

just wait, teleshi... telesouth will tank these stations.. im not saying theyre horrible operators, but nothing they do impresses me

Could iHeart buy it and take it dark or move it so WRGV 107.3 in Pensacola could upgrade to a full C1?

Well 95.3 Gorilla covers the entire Gulf Coast metro area and 107.1 the monkey only covers within Harrison County area so it would be hard to compete with Gorilla

Maybe. I'd have to look into it and see if there any other upgrade impediments to 107.3. I don't know off the top of my head.

OK, got a change to do some basic measurements. If The Monkey were eliminated, it looks like it could clear all the co- and adjacent-channel stations and be suitable for a full Class C upgrade. That'd get the power up to 100 kW, but looking at coverage maps of WRGV (50 kW C0) versus WTXK (100 kW C) there's only like 10-15 miles more coverage in each direction. They're a good combo to compare since they are using the same antenna!

Here's the list of stations that I checked it against:

106.9A WRBE Lucedale, MS
107.1A WLVZ Collins MS
107.3A WFCG Tylertown, MS
107.3A WQZZ Boligee, AL
107.5C2 KNOL Jean Lafitte, LA
107.5A WVFG Uniontown, AL
107.7C2 WFXX Georgiana, AL

The ones that comes closest, spacing-wise seems to be WFCG Tylertown and WLVZ Collins.

A fun little mental exercise, but I'd be shocked if anyone other than EMF gets it. Dunno why I forgot about them when I said no one would want a little class A in that market. It's worth noting it would not only fill a gap in their network, but compliment WLVZ and KNOL, which are both 107.X K-Love affiliates.

Either option (selling to EMF or going dark) eliminates a commercial competitor for casino money in the Biloxi market.

WXYK is being spun off to a nephew of Telesouth’s Steve Davenport, according to the FCC CDBS info. Doesn’t appear it will go to EMF or iHeart... or anyone else.

WRGV dropped to 50kw several years ago to stay under the market cap, and they moved 104.9 out of Mobile to keep it to satisfy the cap.

This reminds me of a similar situation in Jackson, Ms radio years ago - when Clear Channel (pre iHeart) was the top competitor in the market, Arbitron (pre Neilsen) informed them that the were exceeding their market share with 102.9, 96.3, 95.5, 106.7 and 620 AM. They worked a deal with Boswell Broadcasting to swap 96.3 (licensed to Jackson, Ms) for 105.1 (licensed to Koscuisko, Ms). Since 105.1 was not in the MSA, it didn't count towards their market share. Not long after that, Boswell sold 96.3 to the Holladay family for a tidy sum and left the Jackson, Ms radio market.

How did a little class A FM in Mississippi, 107.1 The Monkey, get almost 420,000 Facebook likes ?

It suddenly makes sense as to why TeleSouth keet the Monkey intellectual property.

Holy cow! That can't be right. But it is! Even WABD only has about 66k likes. B 98.5 in Atlanta has 75k. 97.9 The Loop in Chicago doesn't quite crack 100k.

There has to be some shenanigans going on.
