Actually Liberman gave up the KRTH calls that were in use on 930 AM at the time of purchase to get KKHJ. Since KHJ was not available to him, he got the next best thing by adding a second "K". He wanted advertisers to know that the station was "the old KHJ" with good coverage of the market. Only by making an absurd claim that the "KK" in KKHJ was pronounced like "caca" did he manage to get the FCC to restore the 3-letter calls... even if the calls were never said in Spanish on the air!

Those of us in Houston are keeping an eye on the Liberman bankruptcy as the company has a cluster of stations here. Gotta wonder if underperforming assets will be put on the block, or if either the radio or TV divisions get sold off.
