KIRO TV & Radio Telephonic Happening 1971

Back in 1971 KIRO TV, AM & FM did something out of the ordinary for both TV & two of its radio stations and the show was called “Telephonic Happening”, in which you listen and watch the show with your TV and radios on just to get that quadraphonic sound. I say this was out of the ordinary for KIRO back then because this was mostly local music and Top 40 sounds which they normally don’t play on their radio stations when they play softer hits! Makes you wonder what was the late Lloyd Cooney and Bonneville International were thinking back then?

Oh. My. GOD!!!

Di-....Did THIS really happen?

And just so you know, as I'm writing this, I am under the influence of a perfectly legal, psychoactive plant in the state the market of this particular board is usually something about.

I'm going to need a moment.....

I haven't thought about this in years but I still have one or two minutes of the introduction to "Telephonic Happening" on cassette, as well as Lloyd Cooney's classic reading of the poem Doggy Doo concluding with Cliff Kirk saying "The preceding has been an editorial opinion."

Dave Hubert was CE of AM (and possibly FM) then and I worked for him, albeit briefly in about 1977 or '78. I asked him about the special broadcast and he said it was a nightmare to coordinate. Our talk was about the same time Mutual Network came to Seattle and held a presentation promoting AM Stereo to many AM Station Managers and Engineers in the region.
