Hurricane Michael FM updates

I'm checking streams of all the local FM stations in Panama City (minus non-commercial FMs), as Michael has made it to Mexico Beach as a Cat 4 150-155mph. Goodness gracious.

92.5 WPAP - iHeart 'Operation Stormwatch' with WJHG and local FM simulcasts. Was WJHG until they went off the air.
93.1 W226CJ/1290 WPCF - Off the air
93.5 WTKP - Off the air
94.5 WFLA - iHeart O.S.
95.1 WBPC - Off the air, stream not working
95.9 WRBA - Stream not working, suspect off the air
96.3 W242BF/590 WDIZ - iHeart O.S.
97.7 WYYX - Off the air
98.5 WFSY - iHeart O.S.
99.3 WEBZ - iHeart O.S.
100.1 WWLY - Off the air, stream not working
100.5 WOYS - Off the air
101.1 WYOO - Off the air
102.7 WPHK - Still on with regular Rel programming
103.5 WKNK - Off the air
104.3 WGSX - No stream but I'm sure they're off too
105.1 WASJ - Off the air
105.5 WFCT - Stream not working so I suspect they're off
105.9 WILN - Off the air
107.9 WPFM - Off the air

Basically, the only FMs on the air are the iHeart stations and 102.7. WMBB's went off the air an hour ago, some reporters are on Facebook, and WFLA NBC 8 in Tampa has taken over the stream. WJHG's stream is off. Please, please, please stay safe and hunker down if you didn't evacuate.
EDIT - Water is LEAKING into WJHG's studio per Facebook!

The iHeart Tallahassee cluster reporting WPAP and others are off the air now. Basically, communication is down (except one religious FM) in Panama City.

Correction as of 3:56 FLorida Time zone today WJHG and WMBB is off the air and WFLA has taken over the app.

Fox 13 News in Tampa is covering Hurricane Michael for Tampa Viewers on the Live feed.

WBBK 93.1 Blakely GA has dead air right now. Hurricane Michael is *STILL A CATEGORY 4* 20 miles S of Marianna FL! WBBK serves the Dothan AL area where they are also expecting high winds and lots of rain.
Devastation all over Mexico Beach and Panama City Beach per Twitter/Facebook videos. Some homes in Mexico Beach are completely gone. A bar's roof flew off there too; condos and apartment roofs blowing off in PCB and 7' of water in Apalachicola. It will be a long time...weeks, months, before this area returns to normal.
WCTV-6 Tallahassee is taking occasional power cuts but they are more on than off. Don't think they'll be on much longer IMO.

I know Every major Florida Local TV News outlet is going wall to wall with Michael on their web feeds But I don't know if any of the newscasts outside of WFLA is simulcasting in Panama City, Florida at this time.

WECB 105.3 in Dothan is airing TV coverage instead of country, probably WTVY. I don't know about 95.5 or 106.7 as they geoblock the stream. Some stations are still on with regular programming, like the 700 AM.

Update Macon, Georgia is on Hurricane Michael Watch

Macon, Georgia, is under a tropical storm warning, flash flood watch and tornado watch as Hurricane Michael makes landfall on the Florida coast.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is covering the preparation and response to Hurricane Michael with reporters and photographers tracking developments as they happen. Come back to ajc.com to keep up with Georgia’s weather, storm damage, and alerts from officials on how to keep your family safe.

» RELATED: Here’s what’s closed in Georgia ahead of Hurricane Michael

Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency is asking residents to "shelter in place" once Michael moves into Middle Georgia. Sustained winds of up to 45 MPH, with gusts approaching 60 MPH, are expected beginning at 8 p.m. and continuing into Thursday morning, with the brunt of the storm passing through between 2 and 4 a.m. Anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of rain is expected, according to the National Weather Service. But the high winds pose the biggest threat in this heavily wooded area of the state said Chris Floyd of the local EMA.

“There's a real potential this could still be a Category 1 Hurricane when it hits Macon,” Floyd said. “We anticipate it'll be stronger than Irma.”

Tropical Storm Irma, which swept through Macon-Bibb last September, left 100,000 cubic yards of debris in its wake, closing 229 roads and even knocking over a church steeple. Floyd said Michael's impact could result in several days of clean-up and several days without power for many residents.
With Irma's memory still fresh, Maconites seem to be taking the warnings seriously. But for those who haven't prepared, time is running out. "Where you have dinner is where you should stay tonight," Floyd said.

WFLA-TV has made a statement that they are broadcasting in Panama City and Alabama because Nexstars Sister Stations are off the air

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB/WDHN/WFLA) - Winds from Hurricane Michael have knocked two of WFLA's sister stations off the air.

WMBB News 13 in Panama City was knocked off the air when the storm made landfall on Wednesday afternoon. The storm later knocked WDHN in Dothan, Alabama off the air as well as it moved inland.

The stations have no power. WFLA is helping them stream and update their website to provide their viewers with the latest information.

As WMBB News 13 was on the air Wednesday afternoon, their wind gage ripped off the roof. You could hear the winds outside as it tore across their roof.

“We’re feeling it,” anchor Amy Hoyt said during the broadcast. “It sounds like the train is coming over the roof of the TV station. I mean, our building is shaking and this is an old cement building. It’s everything it was promised to be: Dangerous, devastating and life-threatening."

No one was injured and the news teams are sheltering in place.

Our thoughts and prayers are with employees at the stations and all residents in Michael’s path. Stay safe everyone!

WDHN-18 Dothan has been knocked off the air due to Hurricane Michael. Both ch 7 and 13 in Panama City are still off.

Update Georgia is on Tornado Watch and this is taking place as the Hurricane fallout is at play here.

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ga. - Hurricane Michael spawned a possible tornado that damaged more than a half a dozen homes in central Georgia's Crawford County.

Sheriff officials told FOX 5 the apparent twister impacted seven homes on Flint River Estates Road. The small residential street is off of Highway 128, about five miles west of Roberta.

Homeowner Wayne Grenade told FOX 5 he saw the storm taking out dozens of trees as he sat on his porch. He said he grabbed his wife and their dog, then pulled a sofa over them and prayed while trees fell on their home.

Granade lost a huge garage and thinks as many as 150 trees fells on his five-acre lot, but he considers himself lucky that he and his family are still alive.

A number of downed trees now line the roadway as well as downed power lines; however, the roads are fairly passable. Officials said about 1,100 homes in the county are in dark.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

Update 30 FM and 4 AM Radio outlets were off the air due to Hurricane Michael.

The Federal Communications Commission continues to assess the damage across 101 counties in Florida, Georgia and Alabama from Hurricane Michael and is reporting 30 FM stations out of service, while 61 FM outlets reported as operational. Three FM translators and four AM facilities are off the air, while 18 AM stations are still operational. 18.8% of wireless towers were offline. The numbers are likely to climb as FCC data collected from stations are from those able to report their status, which could omit many Florida stations.
FCC Chairman Ajit Pai issued the following statement, "Data from the FCC's Disaster Information Reporting System shows that Hurricane Michael caused substantial communications outages along its destructive path. Staff from the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau reached out to representatives of carriers and broadcasters to discuss the situation on the ground and how to restore service as quickly as possible In particular, we were pleased that carriers had pre-positioned equipment and were in the process deploying cells on wheels (COWs) and cells on light trucks (COLTs) in order to get wireless service up and running in many locations."

Four Panama City, FL FM Stations will not return to the air: WRBA 95.9; WKNK 103.5; WASJ 105.1; and WPFM 107.9, all owned by Powell Broadcasting. Both Tower and Studio compleatly destroyed. Powell has elected to cut their losses and turn the licenses in. The last station, 107.9 had been sold to EMF (Air1, KLOVE) but now the closing of said sale is in doubt with no tower to broadcast from.

CaliRadioFan, that is incorrect. Powell did lose their STL tower, but WPFM’s transmitter site is far north of PC on a TV tower and it is intact. EMF has applied for the transfer of ownership and the change to noncom, sale will likely proceed as planned.

The STL tower at the studio was damaged, but I have not seen anything about the transmitter site towers being destroyed. Nothing has been said about turning the licenses in. Most likely scenario is Powell selling the remaining stations at a bargain price and a new owner relocating the studios. EMF will most likely proceed with the purchase of WPFM.
