99X's Sean Demery has died

Sean was a true innovator and brought an entire new music genre to the airwaves that spread like wildfire. For many of us 90s kids, this music defined our generation. He will be missed but what he did to bring us music that was the soundtrack of many of our lives will never be forgotten. RIP sir.

He was a leader in the Alternative Rock and Triple A formats, with stations on his resume that included KITS and KMTT in addition to 99X. His last position was PD at the legendary KINK in Portland, OR. He also was a successful consultant.

500,000 Watts on FM, is that even possible or was that his dream. Any relation to Adam J Demery, KRLA Newsman

There have been 500,000 watt FMs, but the highest power now is 380 kw.

"Highest authorized ERP’s - 1950
In the United States, FM stations are now limited to an effective radiated power of 100,000 watts. However, this limit was not in effect in the early days of FM and some of the older FM stations have been allowed to keep their ERP’s above 100,000 watts. The table below shows the highest ERP’s listed in the 1950 Broadcasting Yearbook, although these figures represent authorizations and probably few if any of the power levels were actually achieved.

93.7 WJEF-FM Grand Rapids CP 550000
99.5 WAFM Birmingham 540000
105.7 KXEL-FM Waterloo 540000
107.7 KFSA-FM Fort Smith 497000
97.1 WTCN-FM Minneapolis 400000
94.1 WGST-FM Atlanta 345000
97.9 WRFD-FM Worthington CP 340000
93.1 WKAT-FM Miami Beach 324000
93.3 WTMJ-FM Milwaukee 322000
101.5 WJBC-FM Bloomington 311000 "
