KCCI News Director Dave Busiek To Retire

https://tvnewscheck.com/article/top-news/222138/kcci-news-director-dave-busiek-retire/

Dave Busiek, news director of Hearst Television’s CBS affiliate KCCI Des Moines, Iowa (DMA 68), has announced his retirement effective at the end of 2018. Before becoming news director in 1990 Busiek was a reporter and anchored KCCI 8 News at Ten.

Busiek is only the third news director in the station’s history. During his tenure he has acted as mentor and adviser to hundreds of journalists, added additional newscasts and overseen KCCI’s transformation into a multiplatform news organization.

In addition to numerous awards earned by the news department during his career, Busiek has also been recognized by Broadcasting & Cable as News Director of the Year, has been recognized by the Midwest Television Academy of Arts and Sciences with the Silver Circle Award, was recently inducted into the Iowa Broadcasters Hall of Fame and is a Jack Shelley Award Winner from the Iowa Broadcast News Association.

Busiek’s career has been filled with highlights. Among them are testifying in front of a U.S. Senate subcommittee on opening federal courtrooms to television cameras, leading the Radio-Television News Directors Association in the days following 9/11, and securing KCCI as a co-sponsor along with CBS News and the Des Moines Register of the 2015 Democratic Presidential Debate.

Note the retirement will take place at the end of 2018.
