Today stations store music in computers with audio levels normalized. But how did stations run the board back when they played CDs and carts (or just carts)? Were levels normalized at the board? Were AGC release times faster than now to compensate for input levels being all over the place?
In the present, what's the way to get a major market sound? I'm talking about stations that sound like the AGC release is 0.5db/s and there's no holes in the programming from the slow release. Songs with low intros sound like the intro was boosted so the AGC release wouldn't be obvious after a loud liner. Do some stations preprocess their music to get this effect?
