CBS said CBSN has grown viewership significantly since launching in November 2014, and nearly 80% of CBSN’s viewers are between the ages of 18 and 49 with an average age of 38.

“CBSN Local is the exciting next chapter in how our stations will serve audiences seeking local news on all of the most popular content consumption platforms,” said Peter Dunn, president of CBS Television Stations. “These streaming local news services will be a terrific companion to the award-winning national and global news reporting provided by CBSN. Working together, we look forward to making the outstanding local news coverage produced by our stations available to a wider audience, anytime and anywhere people want to view it.”

“CBSN’s tremendous success in attracting a growing and engaged audience of viewers across all platforms paved the way for us to bring our direct-to-consumer strategy to local markets,” said Jim Lanzone, CEO of CBS Interactive and chief digital officer of CBS Corp. “The addition of CBSN Local services delivering high-quality coverage from our stations around the country will bring a new level of depth to CBSN’s 24/7 original reporting.”

According to CBS, CBSN, which launched in November 2014, has grown its average monthly viewers nearly 30% year-over-year in 2018, and the network set new viewership records in September, which is the top-ranked month in 2018 for total streams and the second-ranked month of all time, behind November 2016. And a timetable for CBS to launch CBSN Local to all the other O&O's has been released.

CBS Television Stations and CBS Interactive on Thursday announced their intention to accelerate the rollout of CBSN Local, the company’s local direct-to-consumer streaming news services, in all 13 major U.S. markets where CBS Television Stations have local news operations.

CBSN New York debuted in December 2018 and CBSN Los Angeles went live in June 2019. CBSN Boston is expected to launch soon, with CBSN San Francisco Bay Area scheduled to make its debut during the fourth quarter of this year.

The company today for the first time confirmed its plans to launch a CBSN Local service in the nine remaining markets where CBS has a local television news organization. All nine markets will debut their CBSN Local services by early 2020.

The nine markets included in this expanded launch plan are Chicago (local news content provided by WBBM), Dallas-Ft. Worth (KTVT), Philadelphia (KYW and WPSG), Minneapolis-St. Paul (WCCO), Denver (KCNC), Miami (WFOR), Sacramento (KOVR and KMAX), Pittsburgh (KDKA and WPCW) and Baltimore (WJZ).

bet CBSN DFW will come in handy when Dallas-Fort Worth has a spring time tornado/severe thunderstorm outbreak, cause they would air severe weather coverage non-stop wall to wall and only go on the actual KTVT CBS 11 if it is a tornado on the ground or Dallas, Tarrant, Collin or Denton county are under a tornado warning, so that way, regular scheduled CBS programing wwon't be interupted and won't be forced onto KTXA Texas 21.

Any news junkie in need of a live-Information fix can toggle on to any number of streaming news outlets. Now, TV stations affiliated with CBS can do the same.

CBS News told affiliates in a memo Tuesday that it would allow them to use live coverage from its CBSN streaming-video hub to keep news events on the air even when the network’s traditional reports had come to an end.

On Tuesday, for example, CBS News provided continuous live coverage of the impeachment hearings from CBSN to news affiliates for linear broadcasts, as well as in its own digital outlets. It marks one of the first times the streaming outlet was made available for linear broadcast. –while simultaneously streaming on CBSN.

”We will make CBSN breaking news coverage available to you so you won’t have to go elsewhere to stay competitive,” said Tim Gaughan, vice president of news services at CBS News.

Here is a followup

CBSN Bay Area has launched and, according to TVNewsCheck and Broadcasting and Cable, CBSN Minnesota (WCCO-TV) is planning to launch next month.

Apparently some of the CBSN outlets have been hit hard by layoffs as part of the fallout from the Viacom merger. Speculation that the concept could fizzle before gaining any traction.

Maybe. Some of the layoffs were due to the merger, others to the revenue loss due to COVID. Plus the closing of the CBS Broadcast Center in NYC continues, with speculation that the building itself may be sold. However, I haven't heard of any lack of support of CBSN. In fact that staff has been active filling in for others around the division as needed.

Detroit will never get one because WWJ/WKBD don't have a news department.

Also the Detroit Newscast for WKBD and WWJ are produced from KTVT Dallas.

Its like how WUPA Atlanta has their newscasts produced from WBZ-TV and WCBS-TV. WTOG-TV news is produced at WFOR-TV.
KSTW Seattle's master control is at the KPIX/KBCW offices with weather segments produced by the CBSN Bay Area crew.

The CBS Owned CW affiliates WILL NEVER be considered a part of CBSN Local

As for WWJ/WKBD - Doesn't mean CBSN Detroit can't have a channel & produce it's own LOCALLY produced ONLLINE ONLY newscasts INDEPENDENT of WWJ though
