Adult Hits vs Classic Hits

I recall CBS Radio had an exclusive on the Jack format in its markets. So no other company could use that version.
They would have had to create their own, as Greater Media did with Ben.
The "rest of the story" is a bit different. After about a year, "Jack" was getting better 25-54 than the prior oldies incarnation of CBS-FM.
However, at that time, Arbitron was doing the initial tests of the PPM in Philadelphia, and CBS programmers and executives saw what they could do by changing WOGL a bit. The results were so surprisingly good that CBS worried that, when the PPM eventually arrived in New York, someone else would have figured out the WOGL PPM strategy and might preempt them.
So CBS did CBS-FM 2.0, which was an early generation classic hits station, not the prior pre-Jack oldies format. In a traditional NY move, they dumped "Jack" in the East River, even though the station performance was quite good in 25-54.
We all wondered why CBS did not do the same thing when, right after the Philly tests, the PPM testing went into phase II in Houston. It was thought that the consideration was market ethnicity... which was also why KLOL dropped the rock thing for reggaetón.
They should have never touched 101.1, since it was the most loved station in New York besides 106.7 Lite Fm. The music on Jack FM wasn't bad but it was the voice over that made the station unlistenable. It sounded very dull. I hope they give Adult Hits another shot in New York, I enjoy listening to Ben FM on TuneIn
They picked CBS-FM because it was dropping in billing and the demos were getting too old to sell.

Not meaning to be too out-of-Philly here, even though we do get just about every FM from there ; we're 1500 feet above sea level ....
Eagle 107 has been calling itself 'rock and roll for adults' for over a decade. On weekends, 'rock blocks' are featured.
Would you believe four songs in a row by Bill Withers ?!?
But WEGH is owned by the Sunbury Broadcasting group, which owns the huge ratings winner Hot A/C '94 KX', plus news-talk-sports WKOK 1070, and a few other facilities. Eagle 107 during the weekdays sounds much like the chicken-AoR sound of WDRC-FM Hartford, circa 1980. Singer/songwriters seem to be their chief airplay options, much like 'DRC stressed. My mother-in-law used to have WEGH on during the day -- when she was in her mid 70's.
Classic hits ... rock and roll for adults .... variety hits .... classic rock .... adult hits .... it's all the same to us in the car up this way. We in the boonies are kind of lucky that way. And since we're actually closer to the Maryland line than to the New York line, we can enjoy the occasional WOGL holiday weekend special.
