New Format at KRKO

Maybe, Kelly, but AM stereo didn't produce harsh artifacts and didn't interfere with other licensed facilities.
And yes, AM stereo was wonderful, and no one should be derided for saying that; I was just agreeing with Andy, after all.
Incidentally, I have yet to hear stereo from an AM HD facility. However, I also haven't heard an AM HD station with audio that isn't fatiguing to listen to. The highs sound artificial and harsh to me. I've heard the KFAB in Omaha has well-engineered AM HD without that harsh sound ... but I'm a long way from Omaha.

What you describe is part of the hybrid experience of trying to share space with the analog signal. All digital AM has none of that and I found listening to be quite pleasant from 200 miles away.

A big mistake that AM or FM stations do on the analog side, that if running HD can create that crappy sound; is playing MP3 files. Sure, sometimes agencies send spots to stations via E-mail, which necessitates playing a codec like an MP3 file. MP3's and some AAC encoded files sound bad on HD Radio encoded stations, which means if a song, sounder, or whatever was ripped from a CD or a digital source recorded with the wrong codec, you'll really hear the difference.
