Cochise county ratings

Cochise County is just east of Pima County. It contains the cities of Sierra Vista, Douglas, Bisbee, Benson, Willcox and Tombstone along with the sprawling army base Fort Huachuca. Sierra Vista is by far the largest community in Cochise County and if you look at the Nielsen numbers the top ratings nearly always go to a station based in Sierra Vista. There is also a lot of leakage from the more powerful Tucson stations. This year is a big exception in that Benson's station came out solidly on top. Here are the numbers for persons 18+ and the listeners in the average quarter hour:

1) KAVV (FM) aka CAVE-FM 900
2) KHYT Tucson 500
3) KNST Tucson 500
4) KZMK aka K-101 Sierra Vista 400
5) KWCD Bisbee/Sierra Vista 400
6) KKYZ Sierra Vista 300
7) KRQQ aka KRQ Tucson 300
8) XHNNO Agua Prieta 200
9) KMXZ aka Mix Tucson 200
10) KATO Safford 200
11) KDAP FM Douglas 100
12) KTAN (AM) Sierra Vista 100
13) KIIM Tucson 100
14) KHIL Willcox 100
KZMK, KWCD and KTAN are all owned by Cherry Creek Radio of Denver. In 2015 KTAN switched from right wing political talk to country gold in an effort to knock down some of KAVV's numbers. KTAN plummeted and KNST soared. You'd think that Cherry Creek would have recognized their mistake and gone back to their previous format. Their latest move is to apply for a 50 watt FM translator on the KTAN tower. KKYZ is Ted Tucker's oldies station on 101.7. It's been at the top for several years--until now.

CAVEMANager thanks for this info. Interesting to see how things wind up next door to Tucson.
Over time have there been any wild extreme swings between any of the stations? And has there ever been a zero to first (or close) scenario?
Sometimes you can have a larger impact in a short amount of time in a smaller market vs. trying to change habits with more people in a larger market.
