ABC News to launch a Streaming News Channel on Roku

ABC has said that the ABC News Streaming outlet is going to run similar to CBSN and it will be out for Roku Users. Also Cheddar TV will be included in the Roku listings.

ABC’s new livestreaming news channel, ABC News Live, is making its exclusive debut on Roku’s ad-supported channel.

ABC News Live, the network’s new 24/7 livestreaming channel, will use worldwide resources of ABC News to deliver news in a streaming format. The new channel will compete with current streaming news channels like CBSN and upcoming SVOD services like Fox News’ Fox Nation.

The Roku Channel is also adding live news coverage from Cheddar and People TV.

“We built The Roku Channel so it’s easy to navigate, offers great content and brings real value to our customers,” said Rob Holmes, vice president of programming at Roku, in a statement. “Today, we’re working with some of the industry’s most forward-looking news organizations such as ABC News, Cheddar, People TV, and others, to deliver yet another customer-requested feature to The Roku Channel—live and linear news. ABC News has been at the forefront of producing and delivering live news for OTT viewing and we're excited to have them on board as one of our anchor news partners.”

Newsy on Roku Channel really isn't so new if you've had the Newsy channel app this whole time. What Roku REALLY needs to do is work with Haystack TV (It DOES NOT have a live news feed on its channel)

As for ABC News entering the 24/7 streaming news business, that's not a surprise. Sister network ESPN has had ESPN3 for years & ABC News has done various live streams for breaking news & other events for YEARS as well) so it's only natural that they compete with CBS (Who BTW recently entered the 24/7 streaming SPORTS business) in the 24/7 streaming news business

Now, if only NBC (Who HISTORICALLY is known to be WELL AHEAD of EVERYONE but maybe CBS on these things) can bring THEMSELVES around to doing live video on streaming devices.....
