Sangean PR-D4VW Sonido Radio Any good?

Found it in the basement, got it as a gift some years ago and used it for a little while and that's it. Tried to do some research on it but found nothing. Is it any good? Does it compete with the top performers?

If it's a Sangean it is undoubtedly good on AM, and probably good on FM.

Here's Jay Allen's review. He usually has a good assessment of radios, especially on AM, but he also is an FM listener:

He says it's close to the CC2E and the PR-D4 has variable bandwidths. Sounds like it has a DSP chip inside. Says the weather band works better if you shorten the antenna (which makes sense -- 162 Mhz is a shorter wavelength than 88 or 108 Mhz).

Thank you! yeah the AM is horrible and sounds extremely muffled. I'm lucky to get locals with it. FM is good but there is no DSP chip in it so the selectivity is quite bad and plus it has a sensitive weather band.

Unfortunately, last I remember reading, the PR-D4VW was not considered a good DXing radio on AM. It was sold through C. Crane. It does have a 6.5-inch ferrite antenna though. FM, on the other hand should be good.

If it has a decent loopstick like that (6 inches is formidable) obviously a tunable external loop would turn it into a DX machine.
