Kevin Klein Live In Controversy...Before 1st Show Airs!

pjc1961

Star Participant
Kevin Klein Live is set to debut Thursday morning 3/29/18 6-10 AM on 97.3 the Machine.
(The San Diego Padres open their 2018 regular season later the same day at 1:10 PM
vs. the Milwaukee Brewers at Petco Park with play-by-play on the same station.)

However, a firestorm erupted after a promotional tweet for Kevin Klein Live was sent out
on Monday 3/26 depicting the Coronado Bay Bridge with the superimposed caption reading
"JUMP*...*to a new morning show" "Kevin Klein Live on 97.3 The Machine Talk That Rocks".

Sadly the Coronado Bridge has become a destination for suicidal jumpers with 400+ deaths in the bridge's history.
Thus, many people responded on Twitter calling the Klein tweet inappropriate and insensitive.

After the Padres responded with a statement denouncing Klein + Entercom (owner of 97.3 The Machine),
Klein eventually apologized and removed the tweet, but not before taking a shot via Twitter at an unknown
"radio guy who begged for a job at our new station, but didn’t get it because he’s a “lazy bore”
who "tried to get us fired before we even go on the air by tattling on us with his troll bots."

I’m surprised they are trying hot talk (albeit mixed with sports and rock) again. I think they’d be better off as a full on sports FM (that doesn’t piss off the Padres). Perhaps that shift will come sooner than later now. Thoughts?

First Boston, and now what a major problem this is for Entercom in SD after the mountains they had to move to make this station happen as the point of it's existence was to land the Pardes. I really don't see KKL airing, there's still a chance the Pardes want out and may move to another station. They may end up with one or the other but not both.

From the start they swap signals with KSON, then keep CHR as a lame duck for months as they got this format and staff ready for the Pardes and right at the start of the season this irresponsible tweet happens at the worst time possible. Not good judgement or a morning show i'd want as part of such a serious and sensitive project. It's disrespectful to the company knowing how important this launch is and you do something you know is wrong but still choose to do it anyway. If the argument is that he didn't know it was wrong then that's even worse judgement you'd want on your staff.

Anyone know if the Padres are locked in or can they actually jump ship?

To make matters worse, the picture Kline used in the tweet that started this mess was copyright protected! A lawsuit may be coming on that front. If the Padres believe the early termination fee is worth paying, it maybe too little too late for Entercom.

The entire station schedule has been cleared from the KEGY website. It looks like a flip is imminent and may happen at any moment.

Is this a first? A radio show getting the boot before they air their first show?

This station has been a complete disaster since day 1. The extra bit of good news in all this is that Sileo isn't on the air anymore either.
