1620AM Pirate in Boston?

Scanning through the "extended band" after dark tonight looking for some skip/dx.

Came across 1620AM....and it sounded like a local.

Is 1620AM a regular pirate frequency here in Boston?

(If so, anyone know who they are?)

Thanks!

Nothing LICENSED for 1620 anywhere near Boston, and nothing on 810 that if you were driving by the tower would pop up as the first harmonic

Especially in the cold weather months, it's not unusual to hear a distant station come in like a local, especially on the sparsely populated X Band. When I was in Quebec, Canada, one winter week, American X-Band stations from hundreds of miles away were coming in like locals.

If the regular AM band were more sparsely populated, it would probably be repeated there as well.

This may be related to the 90.1 and 92.1 pirates cited by the FCC in Everett, Randolph, Boston, and Brockton.Note site linked above says 90.1 is also Radio Energy

It's worth reading the Wikipedia article on "Haitian Creole" as it shows that the language of Haiti is neither French nor "Haitian". It is Kreyòl, a variety of creole French spoken only in Haiti. While "real" French may be spoken at the highest levels of government and society, most Haitians know no other language than Kreyòl. Kreyòl and French are not mutually intelligible.

Radio is educational!
