1290 AM is now The Fonz

Changing up the music a little and adding a new positioner does not make up for the fact that the two translators do not cover the entire metro and the AM is never mentioned on the air except in the Legal ID. Ratings will still be in the basement.

The AM signal isn't mentioned because they want to spotlight the FM signals. Ratings aren't everything. What else would they put on? Sports Talk? The market is already over-crowded with that.

I agree about the practice of spotlighting FM's and in fact 1290 was rarely mentioned back in the WZUU AM/FM days either. The difference is 95.7 was and is 50,000 watts ERP compared to now having two low power translators and trying to be "FM". It's also true that ratings are not everything, but I'm guessing they can't find a way to bill anything on that station either since it's transition from WMCS. It's been "Martini Radio", "The Party", "True Oldies" and now "Fonz FM" all in the last five years. Maybe they should have sold it to the guys who bought the daytime only 1510.
