the "new" WJBR

I've been listening... Yes, the mix (no pun intended) is more upbeat, but still has the old songs (Crazy for you by Madonna for example).

I really don't get why they grabbed a callsign that's been around for what? 50 years? And paired it with the most generic, cookie cutter name for an AC station. If they wanted to compete with WSTW for the younger demos couldn't they just refresh the logo, id's and music library?
 
I’d think perhaps the name is used widely because—all other factors certainly taken into consideration—it tends to be a net positive.

They did all the other things, and by and large it’s not as though listeners are paying the slightest attention to how many other stations nationwide use(d) the name...so doing something that puts a little added emphasis on the fresh coat of paint seems potentially beneficial...at least the potential upside outweighs any potential downside.
