KMPS is now 94.1 The Sound

Rob, I'd like to find a playlist from that era for both KRWM and KLSY, but where would I start looking for such a thing? As a more general question for everyone on this board, shouldn't they be done with the 10,000 in a row? I thought that usually only took about a month.

"Sailing" by Christopher Cross was song 10,000, played the morning of January 1st.

Just pull a KRWM playlist from 1995 and you'll be pretty close to it.

Pretty spot on.

KRWM wasn't added to Mediabase's published panel until 98, so below are the top 25 golds that that KRWM played in 1998. If it's bolded, KSWD has played it. Lots of overlap.

1 PATRICK SWAYZE She's Like The Wind
2 ROD STEWART Have I Told You...(Unplugged)
3 PAUL DAVIS I Go Crazy
4 RITA COOLIDGE We're All Alone
5 JIM BRICKMAN Angel Eyes
6 BREATHE Hands To Heaven
7 STEPHEN BISHOP It Might Be You
8 POLICE Every Breath You Take
9 BERLIN Take My Breath Away
10 DAN HILL Sometimes When We Touch
11 GLORIA ESTEFAN/MSM Can't Stay Away From You
12 JAMES TAYLOR You've Got A Friend
13 WHITNEY HOUSTON The Greatest Love Of All
14 BARBRA STREISAND The Way We Were
15 CHRIS DEBURGH Lady In Red
16 NATALIE/NAT K. COLE Unforgettable
17 ELTON JOHN Your Song
18 E.RABBITT/C.GAYLE You And I
19 SEALS & CROFTS Get Closer
20 STEPHEN BISHOP On And On
21 CHER/PETER CETERA After All
22 MARIAH CAREY Hero
23 ROD STEWART You're In My Heart
24 GENESIS Hold On My Heart
25 PAUL YOUNG Everytime You Go Away

Interesting that Mariah Carey's 'Hero' isn't bolded. That should be on KSWD's playlist as it was such a hit and a '90s throwback.

I really thought "The Sound" was a stunt, at first. But now as time moves on it is apparent this is indeed their gameplan, and I give them credit in one sense, they are providing an alternative to "The Jet" at 95.7, which leans male. Nobody is doing a female upper demo friendly station in the market. Perhaps that is the thinking, if so, they might indeed carve a nitch.

Agreed, "Hero" should probably be on there, but as a "throwback"? No. That would be in the "center" of the library.

Versus the Cash Cow they threw away or could have milked the last few dollars out KMPS while while migrating listeners to the Wolf. Does a Nitch make as much money as station covering a wider demo like a County station would? Must be nice to throw money away.

Or even a niche.

The target is Warm, not The Jet.

Maybe they are trying to migrate the listeners they had in LA area to Seattle thinking the advertisers they had there will follow. Heard of migrating listeners up or down the radio dial, but never I5. Interesting. First listener with a California drivers license from the LA are and proof of renting or buying in Seattle WINS!

Actively searching for a PD and having already hired a morning show are not indicators of a stunt, but feel free to keep thinking that way.

What I find a little odd is how they're not running any spots yet. As AQH pointed out, the 10,000 in a row should have concluded on New Years day, yet they're still not running spots and still running the 10,000 in a row thanks to Tulalip Resort Casino sounder at about 5 after the hour.

AQH has a way of not completely reading someone's post before getting up on the soapbox and pontificating their response.
AQH has many issues, it’s best not to subscribe to them. Who was the noob who said The Jet leans targets males??? Really??! And yes The Sound is for real and everyone knows at work listening is the biggest piece of the pie out there. When looking at the books that’s where you can make the most $ so it would make sense to line up and go after that much coin out there - get yourself some top talent or poach them from the competition who are local relate and who have a proven track record with some name recognition or who are familiar here and go after the kids who have dominated that at work mantel.

Entercom already fired some good talent and blew up a cash cow that had a nice piece of the pie. Entercom is giving talent and money away to competition not the other way around.

I saw a commercial for the The Sound on KIRO this morning during the morning news. Haven't seen any commercials for County 98.9 yet.

This was really a toss up if I'd ever seen one. Personally I would have tried to keep both country stations going for a little bit longer, slowing making KMPS the older one with more gold country mixed with a tight list of today's best while making the Wolf the young country current station. So they wanted to switch one. You got KMPS that has the heritage, a slight edge in billing, and better over all ratings. Then there is the Wolf for which the company already owns and knows well, has a small edge in the money demos, but does not bill as well. I think that really is a toss up, can't blame them on which ever one they decided to flip once they made the call not to have 2 country stations. Maybe the Sound will work out but you have Warm which is a strong ac, 2 hot ac choices, a good adult hits station 96.5, and a strong classic hits station with 95.7. This is a big market and it is obvious that 2 country stations can exist and thrive with how quick 98.9 switched when the 2nd country station whole was opened. I think they jumped the gun a bit and should have tried to make the 2 country stations work by modifying them a bit to work together, time will tell, oh and the 6+ numbers won't be telling, first will be the women 25-54 numbers for the Sound, then ultimately in 24 months or so how well they have been able to monetize the new numbers from the new 94.1 along with whatever increase 100.7 is able to obtain.

As for TV spots, it seems as if the two AC stations have been battling it out for a month now. KSWD has been running spots for a while now, then coming out of Christmas music, Warm hit the TV add campaign as well.
