Star Participant
In relatively minor news compared to the swaps/LMAs in the market, Kris Kringle has arrived at KOIT HD2 and online.

They do this every year. The question is, how long does this and the HD1 stream stay active once Entercom no longer runs the station.

I know there isn't much to talk about in SF radio these days, but I'm constantly amazed that this becomes a subject every late October, early November. The old saying, "Does a bear s**t in the woods," comes to mind. It's like hearing people complain about how early Christmas advertising starts. It has started right after Halloween for about the last 50 years.

More like the last 20. I'm 43, and never saw Christmas-related stuff before 'Black Friday' throughout the '80s.

50 years, NO.

20 years is more like it. In the early 90's, stations never went wall to wall with Christmas music. Usually Christmas songs were put into rotation AFTER Thanksgiving.

I meant Christmas advertising, and Christmas decorations and gift sections in stores - not holiday music on the radio. The stores start waaaaaay before Black Friday. But on the radio - that's probably been about 20+ years. I recall that after KOIT started doing it in the 90s, KFRC (FM - Oldies) would do a half-assed version, with a Christmas song every 3 or 4 songs, between the regular Oldies. I'm thinking that was 94-95, but I may be off.

But every year since I was a kid (I'm 65), I've heard people complain, "Christmas shopping starts earlier every year." Well, not really, or it would be starting in April, by now.

2003 was the first year for wall to wall Christmas music in the Bay Area. KBAY went first followed by KOIT a few hours later.

Maybe KYLD(WiLD 94-9) should become the first CHR station in the country to go All Christmas! It would be interesting to see how they would do if they tried it!
