KCAL FM.

They stopped playing 80's and now are rebranded to 90's till now. Just wondering why they dropped Classic Rock for gold based 90's and currents?
I looked at the radio ratings and it seems it hasnt helped much seeing how they switched over the summer to this new direction versus the heavy 80's they were playing.

1. Looking at their playlist, I don't see them evolving into anything different from what they've been doing. Yes, they have Boston in their 70's category - but More Than A Feeling belongs in every classic hits 70's category. Yes, they have Green Day in their 90's category... but KOLA has never been afraid of those records (see also: Sublime). But they've been playing all of these songs for about a year. It's all pop hits - but many of the pop songs that have endured rock a little bit.

2. Cue David entering the conversation to point out that the IE is a separate market.

3. Last time I looked, KOLA was the top English language station in the IE. Why would you mess with that to chase after listeners from an adjacent market that you'd never get?

As for KCAL, think cluster strategy for a moment. KOLA is 70s-80s-90s pop, heavy on the 80s. Moving KCAL younger keeps the station out of KOLA's lane and gives them a different audience to sell.

That's an assumption. KOLA FM has a mid 7 share overall just this past ratings survey. They have no reason to become any type of rock format. They are doing excellent just as they are. KCAL FM is the 1 in need of help. Not KOLA.

What does the change in a station, KSWD, that does not have a 65 dbu signal in Riverside, San Bernardino, Redlands or Moreno Valley, have to do with an IE station?
