Cumulus buying 97.9 The Loop and WKQX 101.1

Cumulus is owned by private equity, and those same firms hold most of its debt. Private equity can usually find the money when it needs or wants it. If we see a bankruptcy at Cumulus, it will either be because the big private equity firms find a way to get the other creditors out or make their money back and want to unload the company.

How does Cumulus even have the money to buy these stations?

Following up on what Kent said...

If the LMA cost is greater than the cost of money, the payment on a loan may be the cheaper way to go. Sort of like the long term cost of owining a home vs. renting.

Cumulus' issues are debt service, as the broadcast operation does produce cash flow. If a purchase ends up improving the bottom line, the private equity folks are going to like the enhancement.

I am sure they have their ways to get money, after all Sinclair Broadcast Group now owns WGN Radio in less they have tends to put the radio station up for sale.

The Sinclair-Tribune deal has been pushed off to allow for an additional "interested parties comment period". Sinclair does not own WGN.

I would rather see Sinclair sell their radio stations, unless if they later decide to acquire a radio company as a result of the FCC changing the ownership rules.

They're bringing back Marv to run Q101 and The Loop ?!?!?! WTF is Mary Berner smoking???

Wasn't Marv at the helm when the former classical station @ 97.1 MHz began beating WLUP to a pulp in the ratings? Wasn't Marv at the helm when Q101's ratings - as a modern rock station - fell to record low levels?
