KAHM Sells Out

CCF owns the properties, but the LMA keeps the same programming the listeners are used to. "There will be no changes."

That's right...radio never changes!

Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but CCF has been running the loop for over a year now. Grand Canyon University is renting a Hubbard HD2 subchannel (again) for the week for their "New School Year Radio." Since GCU is non-profit again, why not CCF let them use 88.3?

The Nurse and I can only guess that the limited night hours of KCCF don't satisfy the needs of GCU. 88~Three is a shared frequency with KPHF. While CCF has the bigger end of the stick, they have to relinquish the frequency at 8pm. The other possible reason is content - CCF got nailed for running commercials on a non-com. Someone would have to 'splain the rules to GCU, then monitor the frequency. Smells like work to us.

There has been lots of speculation on the full power transmitter on Mingus Mtn
as well as Badger Mtn translators for KAHM and KYCA AM 1490. What about the
full power transmitter on Badger Mtn????

It could remain as it is currently used as an auxiliary site if the newer sites go down. If you're hoping that it would be turned into a new Prescott station on a different frequency that is highly unlikely.

If you can afford to keep old sites up as aux sites, it's smart. One station I jock on has two aux sites left from when it was being rimshotted into the metro; if there's ever a technical issue at one or a natural disaster it's good to have multiple options to fall back on.

The full power transmitter on Badger is in use, once per week, for 8 hours. That has not
changed over the years. Why would a new FM station on a new frequency be unlikely???
Prescott and surroundings areas are experiencing fantastic population growth.

It's not listed as a licensed auxiliary site with the FCC. If a radio station has an auxiliary transmitter site (in other words, a different tower in a different location) it needs to be licensed as such.

Now, if they have an auxiliary transmitter (in other words, a spare transmitter on Mingus that either gets switched into the same antenna or feeds a spare antenna on the same tower), you won't see a FS entry in the database. But if they really did keep Badger as an aux site, it's supposed to be licensed and should show up in the database.

Here's an example: KMLE has a main site on South Mountain and an aux site on Shaw Butte. They are both listed here: https://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/...&slat2=&NS=N&dlon2=&mlon2=&slon2=&EW=W&size=9

You would need the FCC to add Prescott to the allotment table and then put the chance to get a construction permit up to auction in order for it to happen.

So that means you need the FCC to
- find open space in the band that won't interfere with someone else
- add that to the allotment table
- put it up for auction

Then someone needs to
- Win the auction
- Build the station and decide to actually serve Prescott and not try to move it to Phoenix where the money is.

The process is expensive and it takes years.
