Odd NFL scheduling this Sunday on FOX

Noticed something unusual while checking the NFL regional TV assignments for this Sunday, October 1st. It's a single afternoon game weekend for FOX; however the network has both Los Angeles teams in the early and late afternoon slots--Rams at Cowboys in the early slot, and Eagles at Chargers in the late slot. Appears the Rams will be on KTTV, while the Chargers will be on KCOP.

Very unusual that the singleheader network would get two games in the LA market (as well as the morning game from London.) Can't recall this happening before in any of the three dual-team markets; usually the NFL avoids such scheduling. Anyone recall a previous such occurrence where both teams are on the same singleheader network?

I'm surprised that the Eagles at Chargers game wasn't cross flexed to CBS; since they have only one late game, Raiders at Broncos.

it will happen again next week but that time its KCBS and KCAL

Perhaps this is due to one of the teams making the move to LA very late in the scheduling process?

It's happened before with MLB on FOX in 2004- last week of the season, the Dodgers and Angels in division deciding games. Dodgers were on KTTV, while the Angels were on KCOP.

next weeks "oddity" is due to flex scheduling
Rams vs Seattle in the late slot on CBS even though both teams are NFC teams. In the old days that wouldn't have happened

Yes, this indeed is an oddity, but as I understand it, it is based on evening out the main networks (CBS and Fox), based on which teams play on Sunday night/Monday/Thursday. This "evening" is somewhat rare, but it does allow for some variety within networks. I don't pretend to understand this, and someone can correct me.

correct. It also is done when there is a crap set of games (usually at the end of the year) on one network and a couple good ones on the other so they swap some games between networks.
example is week 7. CBS has the DH and the only late game they would have had would be Denver @ LAC. Seattle @ NYG is the primary late game on CBS that week.

Week 14 is the ultimate flex week. Two games featuring NFC teams on the road are on CBS. If they werent the balance would be crazy (has to do with 6 NFC vs AFC games and NFC is the road team on all of them)
CBS early..2 games
CBS late...2 games
FOX early..6 games
FOX late...3 games

So Carolina @ Minnesota (early) and Washington @LAC are on CBS

Week 14 is a interesting week too, as CBS will need 4 feeds for 60 Minutes(one for early games and 3 feeds for late games.) And all 3 have teams in eastern time zone playing out west.

Back in the old days, it would have been either on CBS (if L.A. was visiting Seattle [then in the AFC]) or on NBC (if vice versa).

CBS loves this flex scheduling. The LA-Seattle game is a major coup for CBS, and it will be a must watch in some limited markets, but mostly SoCal and NW.

Take out Charlotte, NC and the furthest east the game is being shown in is Phoenix (the only reason its shown in Phoenix and Charlotte is to not go against the local team)
Otherwise its LA area and the Pacific Northwest (WA, OR, ID) and Alaska

My understanding is this particular flex was done so that FOX could air Green Bay-Dallas across the country. If Rams-Seahawks stayed on FOX, they would not have been able to air GB-DAL in LA.

Poor Wandering LA Chargers.....5 different local TV stations in 5 weeks. Only KNBC and KTLA left out so far. I wonder if their phones will be ringing soon :)

Interestingly enough, the next two Seahawks games are both on CBS (NFC Giants and AFC Texans). With last week a Sunday night game and next week a bye that means all the Seahawks games this month will not be on their regular home of FOX--pretty confusing for local fans.
