RBR+TVBRÂ*has confirmed that a close partner ofÂ*Sinclair Broadcast GroupÂ*has agreed to purchase an unaffiliated UHF station in Dallas that failed to fetch any bids in the FCC's recent Spectrum Auction. The seller of this station now exits TV ownership for good, after previously selling all of its stations to the company now known asÂ*TEGNA. Kalil & Co. represented the seller in this TV deal.
it shouldn't really affect KDAF cause this is a partner of Sinclair, not Sinclair themselves, if anything, this station will end up being operated by Sinclair and the owners run it. that is if the Tribune/Sinclair merger goes through approval by Sinclair shareholders, Tribune shareholders, the FCC, the SEC and the DOJ.
This story suggests Sinclair will use KTXD's signal as a "lighthouse" to air KDAF's signal in ATSC 1 once KDAF switches to ATSC 3. They could conceivably lease it out to other stations as a lighthouse, too.
also, the station dropped all syndicated programing and canceled all original programing thus ending the station's run as a Independent station under the TX 47 branding and have become a affiliate to Stadium, the sports channel co-owned by Sinclair Broadcasting Group and Silver Chalice (a subsidy of MLB's Chicago White Sox), as part of the deal, this station will become CW 33's Lighthouse station when Sinclair completes the merger with Tribune and also shut down KDAF DT's ATSC 1.0 feed as part of the transition of ATSC 3.0 aka DTV 2.0 in a few years when ATSC 3.0 gets phased in in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex TV market.
also ROH Wrestling was dropped from the KTXD lineup back in January, but is now back on 47's lineup thanks to Stadium having ROH already on their line up nationwide. and also when the Tribune/Sinclair merger is complete, KDAF CW 33 will pick up ROH possibly due to Sinclair's ownership of the wrestling promotion.
