Weird conversation on Joe Piscopo radio show

Lee Linwood

Frequent Participant
During this morning's Joe Piscopo radio show, they had a conversation about the arrival of a new coffee machine at the station The sidekick Frank Morano proceeded to launch into a speech about how the new coffee machine would inspire the sales staff to not think of the radio station as "mediocre" and would be pumped up to go after big advertisers that they would otherwise not pursue, presumably, because of low self esteem of the sales staff? He then said the station's GM Jerry Crowley instructs the sales staff to have "spot integrity" presumably by not charging low fees for ads But, I thought I heard Piscopo say recently that they don't actually know the ratings of the show, so, on what basis can they have integrity of ad rates? All in all, a very weird conversation and maybe a bit too much information about the goings-on at the station.

This type of conversation suggests that there is little insight, direction, and coaching of talent on the local level. Phil Boyce oversees the Salem brand of talk but without strong leadership on the local level (especially in the number 1 market in the country), it's far too easy for talent to get off track and lose site of what listeners are looking for when they turn on their radio.

"Radio is the lowest rung of show business, but we live for it!" Joe Piscopo
