Great Eastern Radio Closes Sale of Three NH Outlets

WLKZ-FM was started in the early '80s by Alan and Sharon Severy, who owned WASR (1420) in Wolfeboro....the original WLKZ transmitter site was in Tuftonboro -- about a mile from where I was living while working at WASR...
The early days of WLKZ were "touch-and-go"....the transmitter was plagued by problems of one sort or another....the move to Meredith couldn't have come too soon!!!

Speaking of Great Eastern, on Nov. 1, they dropped local origination on their oldies station on 93.9 in Woodstock, VT (studios in West Lebanon, NH), and went to a 24/7 feed of Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel while moving the format to 106.7, which had been carrying the River AAA format of WHDQ-HD2. The River is now on 93.9. WFYX 96.3 Walpole, NH, continues to simulcast the oldies format for listeners farther south and east.
