KBRG's Main Transmitter Site

It would appear (based on Cal Fire maps) that KBRG's main transmitter site was overtaken by fire.

Can anyone confirm whether they're still on the air?

Are they broadcasting from an aux tower and/or site? Just curious what impact the Loma Prieta fire is having on radio in the south bay.

They are off. A temporary transmitter site will be used as soon as equipment is in place.

What a bummer. I went to that site many years ago when it was still KBAY and was always impressed with it. That and their monster grandfathered signal. Curious where the temporary site is? Same site as KSJO and KBAY maybe? :)

The KBRG site was not burnt by the fire. The power grid was down, and the generator ran out of propane. At 3:15 this afternoon, after vehicles were allowed up to the crest, the propane tank was refilled and KBRG returned to the air.

Very happy to hear it wasn't burned up. They got very lucky.

I assume the CDF treats transmitter like any other "structure" which makes sense.
