Comcast Charleston, SC 1998

Charleston's cable system, Comcast, has been a very unique system ever since it started in the late 1970s. It started as Storer, then was bought in 1994 by Comcast.

Unlike most cable systems, Comcast here did not organize channels by type. Instead it was mish-mash as the lineup expanded from 20-25 channels to eventually 70.

This was the lineup in 1998:

Odyssey Network
WCBD (NBC)
TNT
The Weather Channel
WTAT (Fox)
ESPN
WCIV (ABC)
WCSC (CBS)
CNN
WITV (PBS/SCETV)
WTBS (Atlanta)
WMMP (UPN)
WGN (eventually moved as Charleston got its first WB on cable in 1999, WBLN)
A&E (became Pax when they started in August 1998, still there)
USA Network
HBO
BET (Black Entertainment Television)
