Forever Media has too many satellite delivered music formats

Has anyone noticed that most of their stations have satellite delivered formats? Like in Johnstown they own 5 music stations. Out of those 5, 3 have satellite delivered music. In Altoona they own 4 music outlets 2 of which are brought in through some kind of satellite feed. The list goes on and on. I know these stations aren't in the biggest cities and they don't generate a ton of revenue, but can't they at least have more locally programmed music with more local personalities.

That's an interesting comment. How many extra commercials (beyond the existing ones) would you be willing to listen to in order to pay for the local personalities? Because everything is a trade-off. More staff means more expense, more expense is more commercials.

While cost is a factor, the talent is another thing. In smaller markets your paycheck is just enough to require a roommate, so the talent you get, while happy to hone their skills, is usually well below the quality you'd get via satellite. In addition the local program director is learning too and might not be offering the quality of a satellite delivered format. For many smaller market stations it's the most viable option. For others, satellite delivered programming does quit without notice, doesn't call in sick, follows the format and doesn't create embarrassing incidents that can hurt the station image. At one station I worked said he opted for satellite, them computer driven because he got tired of 'incidents' involving the station employees and dealing with jocks that didn't show or turning on the station and hearing something that was not the 'format'. As for me, there are drawbacks and positives on both sides.
