Why did AC stop being soft?

Do I need to add any more lists for anyone to judge the degree of variety?

Also, I need to make a list of songs I haven't heard before because I'm hearing a lot of them.

We need to look at several stations to see how much variety they have. Some people criticize stations for not having enough and it would be interesting to see who actually offers variety.

Just a decade ago, many AC stations were still soft. They played many soft rock songs by the likes of Neil Diamond, the Carpenters, Rod Stewart, etc. And just a few soft currents such as Coors - Breathless. But in the late 2000s, they started sounding more upbeat and current. Now, it's rare to find an AC that plays the staples AC played just 10 years ago. And songs such as Blurred Lines would have been taboo on AC 10 years ago.
Why are AC stations sounding hotter rather than softer?

its caleld getting in step with the times and doing what you can sell

"Margaritaville" is on its way to becoming the "Brown Eyed Girl" of adult contemporary radio, the final survivor of its decade.

It's been four years since I last checked in on this thread.

I have a riddle.

Q: Why is this thread like a Pentecostalist revival meeting?

A: Because it can inspire people to yell the name of the Lord. At least it has that effect on me.

Carry on. I'll check back in 2024.

"Margaritaville" is on its way to becoming the "Brown Eyed Girl" of adult contemporary radio, the final survivor of its decade.
I haven't heard it played on AC radio in years. The only two '70s songs my local AC station (WMGQ) plays/played (before they went all-Xmas) are Billy Joel's "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant" and Queen & David Bowie's "Under Pressure". WLTW plays "Piano Man", "Your Song", and "Imagine".

And now I'm listening to iHeartRadio's "Lite Rock" stream as a refuge from all-Xmas and even though they call the format "The Best Variety From the '80s to Today", they're still playing "Brown Eyed Girl", and quite a few '70s songs like "I Will Survive", "Take It Easy", etc.
