Thread: Cable channel lineup oddities

  1. #11
    Charter Cable in Jackson, TN:

    2 CW Plus
3 WREG CBS 3 in Memphis
4 News Channel 5+ from WTVF CBS 5 in Nashville - This one is odd because Charter doesn't carry WTVF any more. This used to be the location for WSMV NBC 4 in Nashville.
5 WMC NBC 5 in Memphis
6 Empty since they dropped WTVF
7 WBBJ ABC 7 in Jackson
8 Empty since they moved the national feed from ION to 107
9 WJKT Fox 16 in Jackson
10 WKNO PBS 10 in Memphis
11 WLJT PBS 11 in Lexington, TN (Jackson area)
    12 WGN America
13 WHBQ Fox 13 in Memphis

Channels 6 and 8 being empty makes no sense to me. It looks like they could be used for something, whether it's to get WTVF and WSMV in Nashville back, or to put WBBJ's 7.3 subchannel and the local access channel there and free up channels 16 and 22 for other cable channels.

USA on 2-13 is getting darn rare nowadays. We used to have USA about 20 years ago on Channel 2 IIRC. Prime Sports NW was on 6 for a while before KONG-16 came on the air. CNN was on 10 on Viacom Cable circa 1991 in Seattle.

One important note to point out is that being on channels 2-13 does NOT necessarily mean being on the limited basic tier (or whatever the equivalent name is). For example, on the Cox San Diego South lineup I posted either, USA (2) and ESPN (3) are on "TV Essential" a.k.a. expanded basic. And in order to watch XDTV (Channel 13 - My Network TV), the customer must have either a cableCARD or have a digital receiver with any level of service.

I think it's hilarious how almost every TV thread here devolves from a specific question ("What cable systems still carry national cable networks on channels 2-13") into everybody simply offering up lists of things, whether they're relevant to the original question or not. One of those curiosities of the R-I/R-D board landscape, I guess...

Getting back to the original question, on TWC in Rochester NY, only QVC (2) and WGN America (3) still remain among the lowest channels. In the past, we've had Animal Planet (replacing the old WWOR syndex feed) and TBS down there, too, but those long ago moved to higher positions.
All kinds of good stuff over at http://www.fybush.com

The person who started this topic actually asked, "Are there any cable lineups near you that still carry cable channels in the 2-13 range?" How could you assume the person was referring to national programming services based on this question (it appeared simple to me and other users)?

vchimpanzee, what is this "shopping" programming service you listed for Time Warner Cable in the suburban area in Charlotte, North Carolina?
