KSL pushing "Days of Our Lives" to 1:05-AM... In the middle of the night.

It's a good thing that we've got TiVo because The NBC Salt Lake affilliate is taking the same route as KSNV-But instead of moving the soap to another station, They decided to put "DOOL" over to the graveyard spot. The Reason? It's the same station who pulled "The New Normal" & "The Playboy Club" off their schedule. Nice going.

Thats dumb.......Why not spin it off to another channel or thier sub channel.

that's weird. Comcast needs to buy KSL-TV so all of their NBC programming gets cleared.

They can't because they're a cable company. They only reason why they got to keep the NBC stations which were already owned by them was by virtue of a waiver from the FCC. That waiver WOULD NOT extend to KSL or any other station going forward

Cheers & 73 :)

Thanks for the info.

Looks like NBC might find another station in SLC, since KSL might end up becoming an Independent since that station is still tied up with a religious organization that is known as The Mormons.

Maybe KUCW. NBC 30? I could probably imagine that. NBC should yank KSL's affiliation, due to the preemptions, and especially SNL for many years...

You know that KSL's parent company will not allow programs that they see as pornography or LGBT-related air on the station, and given that the latter is part of the storyline on Days Of Our Lives, we can see why they did this move. Then again, KSL must really be serious about sticking with NBC, even clearing SNL to make a point about their loyalty to the network.

I think KSL has also dodge the bullet when it pulled the remaining episodes of "Hannibal"-As that show was deemed very Inappropriate to its owned viewers, and "Hannibal" will be back-but KSL might move the show somewhere else. "Hannibal" would be a good fit for cable TV-On a network like FX, AMC, or A&E.

I would favor Gannett, Hearst, Journal, LIN, Meredith, or Raycom buy KSL from Bonneviile International than Comcast National Broadcasting Company Universal as a way for KSL to not have to worry about preempting any NBC programs anymore that is offensive to any TV viewer within the entire state of Utah and the entire Salt Lake City television designated market area in it's entirely.

Would you put your network on a UHF station with fewer translators than KSL?

How do you know that NBC doesn't make allowances for KSL's pre-emption of
programs it deems offensive? CBS had the same problem, but Bill Paley understood
why KSL was pre-empting. Despite the fact that KSL was for years one of CBS's
lowest-rated stations, he stayed with them until the chance to buy KUTV (and Denver's
KCNC, which also switched from NBC) came along (I think it was to compensate for
the loss of WCAU and the gaining of KYW as an o&o in Philadelphia when Westinghouse
bought CBS.)

If NBC had a problem, it would dump KSL the way CBS did KXLY Spokane in the '70s for
playing fast and loose with the schedule. I don't think the amount of pre-empting KSL
has done has caused any alarm bells to go off at 30 Rock.

I also think there's a lot of to do about very little when we talk about KSL delaying "Days"
until the middle of the night. I don't see CBS threatening to yank the affiliations of WKYT
Lexington. KY or WINK Fort Myers, FL just because they run "The Bold And The Beautiful"
on a day-behind at 10:30 AM (or KOTV Tulsa which airs "B&B" in late night). And who knows?
When this particular storyline that seems to have everyone so hot and bothered plays out--as it
eventually will--"Days" will probably go back to its in-pattern time in Salt Lake City.

Troy, I found your remark to be inappropriate, derogatory, derisive, and very incendiary. KSL television along with their radio excellent radio operations is a paragon of technology and is the midwest region's "go to" station for news and information and community service.

To make a reference to "a religious organization that as 'The Mormons'" is no different from the 1950's and 60's when people made references to the entertainment industry being owned and controlled by "The Jews."

President Kennedy in September 1963 made reference to the industriousness and pluck of those of the Mormon faith in a speech at the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. He spoke how the Mormons settled the area under terrible circumstances and in the process developed and built a great city. Perhaps, Troy, you would be more comfortable making reference to "The Catholics," "The Lutherans," and "The Baptists"?

For years, KSL-5 refused to clear "Saturday Night Live", although it's my understanding they will when the new season begins on the 28th of this month (September, 2013).

It has been a great season for SNL, With Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen, and Bill Hader-Those were the best stars on TV. And Sudeikis have become a real big star overnight-Thanks to The Summer Vacation Movie, "We're The Millers".

Honestly, the whole thing about the significance of pre-emptions is perhaps a thing of a bygone era. A lot of people these days are DVRing shows and watching what they've recorded on their own schedule.

I decided to look at the schedule and probably know why they decided to move DOOL to 1am; their own local show, Studio 5 airs at 1pm now. Any advertising they get in that hours is all theirs to keep, not NBC's, and those national advertisers are still paying NBC money no matter what time they air. They also don't have to worry about infomercials sucking away the audience at 1am and will win a ratings victory by default, which is a sort of cheap but effective way to get a 'sign on to sign off' victory when sweeps roll around.

Really, it all comes down to money, and the more stations which move it, the less likely NBC is likely to renew with Sony when the rights come back up. Also, if anyone really needs their soap opera fix at a waking hour, the SoapNet zombie feed still shows it in primetime three times nightly for those who get it.

Again, people are not fixed to broadcast schedules as DVRs are an important part of broadcast viewing. The cable and satellite folks are screaming and yelling over the prospect of offering a la carte services, yet the television audience is doing the a la carte thing by themselves.
