Freedom 1590

Saw the TV ads for the new Freedom 1590 on the Monday Night Football game, KING and FOX this week. The slogan is your Freedom station has now moved to the other end of the dial. Pretty creative. Dennis Miller, Prager and some of the other KVI syndicated programming are there. Wonder if FIsher made the right move getting out of conservative talk or will Freedom actually deliver ratings and hurt KTTH? More important will it make money? This board has had a lot of chatter about KVI returning and in a way it has now with 1590 has takingthe Freedom slogan and is spending some $$ to promote it. Will it work? Ratings and Miller Kaplan will tell.

1590 gets out great in the Seattle metro. But misses Everett and Tacoma.

Anywhere else between and beyond, it's really spotty and pretty much hit or miss.

They should really move KLFE to 820 if they want any GHOST of a chance in battling KTTH....

The Freedom 1590 format/lineup is virtually identical to the old KKOL AM 1300 lineup/format.

Salem dumped conservative talk on KKOL to go with a mostly brokered 'all business' format. Then , when KVI dumped talk, Salem put a conservative talk lineup back on 1590.

Like 1300 (as talk and then as business) 1590 is getting NO ratings. 0-point-0.

I punched it up today and heard 3 "Prevent Forest Fires/Smokey the Bear" PSA's back to back to back. The same exact PSA three straight times in one stop set.

So I tend to doubt they're making much money.

Saw the monthly revenue report for Seattle and the station is not even on it either. KOMO was the top billing AM station, followed by KJR and KIR0. KVI was next, then KPTK, KIXI and so on. Why would they spend money promoting this station? Got to give them credit for putting some dollars behind it and buying prime football spots and some cable.

Well, you're dealing with a 5,000 watt AM station on an insanely high up the dial frequency for Seattlites....THESE days. The signal on KVI was fairly widespread (although their overall STRENGTH has diminished since the '80s...kinda think they might need newer ground radials - same with KBLE, you're both getting REALLY bad in the WAY up north end daytimes...)

Rust and corrosion KILLS....

But anyway, 1590 was never better since the '70s than for rock stations. Advice to Salem: Quit talkin', start ROCKIN'.....(and NONE of that "religious rock", OK?) Move the talk to 820, the Religious stuff over to 1300. Problem SOLVED.......

Is that's what's gone wrong with KOAC AM 550 or CBU AM 690?

KOAC definitely. CBU, not so bad, but getting noticeable......

820 is actually a pretty decent signal, but there is little chance Salem will change the format on 820/KGNW. That is what they refer to as their "teaching & talk" format. It includes some local religious-oriented talk and a LOT of paid religious programming. That is still Salem's bread and butter and where they generate most of their profit.
