Hypothetical: Soft AC vs. LITE FM

Considering LITE FM is anything but lite these days, how do you think a new soft AC station would do in New York? WDUV in Tampa is doing well. Not sure how WFEZ in Miami has done for it's first book, but it would be interesting if a similar format were to come on the air in New York.

Thoughts?

They debuted in 6th place.

Still, New York is not Florida, so the jury is not even organized, let alone out.

I would love that. Then Lite FM would really be a misnomer.

It already is.

Well of course it wouldn't be an exact replica of the Florida soft AC's, but I think it could be a formidable competitor.

Could a possible WDUV/WFEZ clone compete with 106.7? Possibly. Will the audiences that listen to "The Dove" and "Easy 93 (Not WPAT)" in Florida be as large as they are in New York? Most likely not. And I would imagine it wouldn't please sellable target demos like Lite does, either.

Like Easy Listening before it, Lite AC is dead. DUV may be #1 12+, but they're not racking big bux with that 60+ audience.

Madison Ave wants nothing to do with the audiences of WDUV and WFEZ. That's why a truly soft AC station cannot happen in New York, and that's sad! :(
