Radio Host Killed At Singing Contest

OK, just what seems to be so divisive in the Phillipines to bring this about?
I dare not suggest what is behind this, but there must be some reason the above cited reports have so
carefully sidestepped the issue. Proper journalism relates the who, what, where, when, how and if some idea is known, WHY.
What school of journalism are these people from?

Tom,

the links in the earlier posts are not working, but based on the subject, I might guess someone was trying to sing Sinatra's "My Way" in a kareoke bar.

It seems a number of people have been killed in Filipino kareoke bars over the song.

As for the journalism issue, understand that politics is a big time business in the Philippines and if a political family is less than honest and wants to remain in political power, a good journalist is a threat to that political dynasty.

An example of how this works was the killing of journalists for which members of the Ampatuan family in Maguindanao Province were said to be involved in one incident where 21 journalists were killed.

Many provincial and municipal elections have quite a bit of bloodshed surrounding the political process. Making a dent into a political dynasty means a loss of income to that dynasty, so the elections are serious business.
