PERRY ALLEN Rest In Peace

Perry Allen has passed away. Allen worked at KRLA & KHJ Los Angeles, before coming to KDEO in San Diego where he did a very funny morning show. Later he did afternoons at KFMB, before he was summoned to do a split shift at KFI during their comedy radio days. He often filled in for Lohman & Barkley as well. Perry wrote for Laugh In, Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, and other television shows. 30 years before Jeff & Jer or Dave, Chainsaw & Shelly, this guy was flat out there without a net, his prank calls were side splitting & the interplay between he & Ron Renia was brilliant. Perry did it all without a producer, a board op, or billboards.

Sad news. What was the cause of death? Will there be a local service?

I've emailed his son asking about a service. When I last saw Perry about 5 years ago he was living in Carlsbad. His death was apparently heart-related. He was 75 and, if i recall correctly, started in radio in 1949. I worked nights with him at KCBQ in 1979 and that was a great experience.

LaRadio.com says a reader "received an email from Perry’s son saying Perry was cremated and services will be private."

From Lee Allen, his son:

"Consistent with my Dad's wishes, he has been cremated and we will be
having a private service
."

Back in the day, Perry Allen had the funniest radio bits when he was at KDEO.
My favorite character of his was Ricky Spinnnn.
He was the funniest man I've ever heard in radio.
He will be missed by all who ever listened to him.
