why no rock/metal/alternative network

There are plenty of urban full time formats on cable catering to the rap, hip hop and soul lover, but why isn't there even one full time music video network catering to the rock, metal, hair band or alternative lover. They can have special day night parts for these forms of music so everyones rock taste would be satisfied. I know the advertisers would benefit with the large audience this channel would generate. Why wasn't there ever a rock only cable channel, the closest was the old VH1 CLASSIC,

There are multiple reasons why MTV got out of the rock business. Most of it had to do with the music becoming more fragmented. But the reality is that people don't watch TV for music very much. It was becoming obvious at the end of the 90s. In the meantime, the artists who choose to do videos or video concerts make them available on Vevo or their own personal sites. But not as many artists invest in this kind of content themselves. They prefer you pay to see them live in concert.

truth be told, in the last 10 to 15 years, Rock ha slowly gone from a mainstream genre to niche genre as top 40 stations have more hip-hop leaning artist. plus all of Rock's most mainstream friendly artist these days are in Alt rock groups that get airplay on the mainstream top 40 stations.

plus today, top 40 has a majority of hip-hop leaning pop stars, country stars including those who are "Bro Country" artist, and rap artists too.

the sad reality is Rock/metal/alt rock became niche when Janet Jackson's boob got exposed at the Super Bowl and the FCC crackdown on media followed and the biggest radio companies at the time started killing rock statios left and right in between 2003-2008.

Huh? This makes no sense. Rock was in trouble when grunge came along 30 years ago. Neither Janet nor Timberlake are rock acts.

What??

The last time rock music was discussed as a trending topic was when Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, Counting Crows, Coldplay and others were at their height. But the genre itself never went away it just got shifted over to youtube and other music streaming outlets.

Sure Rock in General as of this posting has a niche audience than the Top 40 of today.

even when MTV played music videos, people never watched it for long, they treated it like radio

None of those acts are hard rock.

I remember when I got 100 channels in 2000 when Suckyvision left Kazoo market it was stuck in the '80s with not many channels heck had to pay extra to get ESPN2 when they finally added it 20 years ago once a year they added a channel that cost extra there way to say we're adding channels when in reality they weren't. MTVX was the channels name then in 2002 was rebranded MTV Jams now BET Jams changed it a couple of years ago.

Maybe not at home, and maybe this wasn't a nationwide thing, but there were a lot of bars in metro Chicago that put MTV on their TV screens when there was no sports going on. MTV was all but mandatory in bars on Division St. in the city, and in the West and NW suburbs, in the 1980s. I wasn't in every bar in the area of course, but of those I did go into, probably 90% had MTV on their TV other than during game times. It was to the 1980s as the Golf Channel and ESPN are today.

The problem with it was the commercials. Way to kill the fun in a bar is to run commercials. I was in a bar just a few days ago. They had a classic rock video service playing on all the screens, running ZZ Top and Peter Frampton. No commercials. The bars don't need MYV any more.
