My personal thoughts about Michael hagerty and David E.

Michael is outstanding with knowledge of radio and the history of it (especially LA)
We need him as a moderator on here he would do well. I'm not sure why he's not a moderator it might just be a personal choice but I personally believe he can be impartial and be a great asset to the moderators and admins.

My personal opinion about David is he puts up with a lot of crap on here that he should not have to deal with but he is very patient and kind even when he has to repeat himself thank you David.

Michael impresses me with every post. Both his clear and professional writing and his knowledge of actual facts amaze me!

Thanks. I get very frustrated at times, but then have to realize that a lot of posters here are not radio professionals and they really want to learn more.

I try not to have too many "bad days".

Gotta tell ya, at 6:09 a.m. without coffee, when I saw the headline my first thought was "Oh, God, how did I piss off James?"

Very kind words and thank you so much.

That said---I can't devote the time required to do it properly. After retiring from broadcasting, I still have my automotive writing (gratuitous plug: New Car reviews | Mike Hagerty Cars ), travel (we leave for six weeks in Italy the day after tomorrow), and long-delayed quality time with family and friends.

My wife has spent a decade seeing me hunched over a keyboard. She needs to see less of that.

But, seriously, thank you.

Means a lot coming from you, David. I had very good teachers from grade school all the way through my career when it came to writing---to say nothing of the truly brilliant writers whose work I read and tried to learn from.

As for knowledge, it's really way more research. Knowledge, I guess, in knowing where to look stuff up---but then, you get the credit for that, because 95% of the information is inside your WorldRadioHistory.com site (gratuitous plug #2).

Well said.

For much of my career I was a station owner or general manager or group manager. Nobody can be "the best" in every field needed to run a radio station. So the best I could do was find people batter than myself in engineering, sales and accounting so I could focus on the product in the areas of programming and promotion.

Finding the right facts (in your instance) or the right people (in mine) is an uncommon skill. I started my website so I'd have easy access to "facts" when associates wanted to reinvent the wheel with a proven flat tire as their model (I got something automotive in here just for you).

So much wisdom in this. It is so important to know what you are good at, honestly assess your weaknesses, and attract others who complement your strengths by being good at what you are not. We are all programmed a little differently just for that reason - our combined team skillsets are always greater than any individual's. Nobody can be everything.

They both are cool, But why did you post this in the L.A Board?

You are a fantastic moderator, and you have fewer “bad days” than most chat board moderators. You share your vast knowledge base patiently and kindly with even the most naive neophytes, and you don’t scold or shame people who are trying to learn.
I imagine that you would have been a terrific mentor, employer, boss, and teacher for all your employees. I would like to have worked for you, as your professionalism and high values are so evident.
I (and I’m sure many others) hope that you will stay at Radio Discussions for many more happy years. - D.

Yes. And I will NOT covert to being an Warriors/Giants/49ers fan. I don’t want that stress
I solved that by never being an NFL fan. Loved working at different times for the flagship stations for the Crimson Tide (early 70's) and the Noles (around 1990) and being friends with the Play By Play hosts and... of course... the coaches.

An interesting subject and I'm happy I discovered it.

For a very long time, I've been drawn to Michael Hagerty's posts, especially when he discusses west coast radio. As someone who has lived on the east coast all his life, I never quite understood what made it all tick. I probably had my own biases. But, Michael's presentation skills and expertise won me over.

I recently saw someone from another radio board described "Radio Discussions" in terms of elitism. To be honest, I'm very turned off by those who post excessively. No one can possibly know everything about every market in the country. If you look at posts carefully, you'll see their comments change. They regularly contradict themselves just to have the last word or to disagree with a string's author. It can be very frustrating and I believe it makes some not want to participate because they don't need the aggravation.

I don't believe I've ever had any interaction with Michael. He treats people with respect. When someone does push his buttons too far, his responses to them remain professional as well as cool, calm, and collected. He's human too but overall, I have a lot of respect for the guy and his knowledge and his superior writing skills.

He's my favorite "Walk of Fame Participant" by miles.

You were only around college football history!! I had the chance to interview Mr. Bobby Bowden when his son was hired at a school that was in my market. I had the chance to interview Coach Saban a few times. Radio, heck ALL MEDIA in college markets are FUN and are not to be overlooked 🤣

At WTNT (FM) in Tallahassee, we had a special break done for Saturday afternoons in the Football season (You spell "Football" with a capital "F" in that town!) and we had well over a 50% share of audience.

On one Saturday, our air staff hosted a gathering after a game (fortunately, as normal, the Noles, won) at a big "have a beer and a fight" joint outside of town. It is just amazing how united the whole city was over those games!

Also attended pre-season gatherings at Bobby Bowdon's home with the players, coaching team and the broadcast team. I can't describe how thrilling it was to be there just before the season for America's best football team!

(Written on the eve of the NFL draft!)
