WHFS LIVES!!

The new sports radio station that launched today in Tampa has the callsign WHFS.

CBS just wanting to keep those call letters "just in case." They are selling their West Palm beach stations and they had parked the calls on a station in that group. I see they have now driven and parked them in Tampa

Yep, same Kirk McEwen who most recently did morning drive alongside Mike O'Meara (yes, THAT Mike O'Meara) on the now-defunct 105.9 The Edge.

Heard him on the first hour of 98.7 The Fan yesterday say he wakes up at 4 AM "no matter what." More power to him!

In New York, CBS has switched the callsign on 92.3 FM from WXRK to WNOW-FM. Add another set of rock n' roll call letters to the CBS scrap heap - unless they decide to park them on another station in the interim...

CBS is keeping the calls "just in case" the Modern Rock/Alternative format just absolutely will not die ::) while they wait for a suit with the 'nads to suggest putting them back where they belong AND willing to take the heat if it doesn't fly....as if it wouldn't make sense for HFS to actually BE WHFS. For a longtime hfs Freak hearing that McEwen has a show on a Sports formatted 98 WHFS just makes me cringe. Wonder what Max Knobny would make of this snakeball?

The format with an audience that doesn't listen to terrestrial radio, whines about everything if they do and no advertiser wants. Yeah, right.

The format that listeners followed to whatever media outlet the station went to in both Baltimore and Philly: HFS and Y100.
The Baltimore station that has advertisers despite being on a Low Power FM. Just because Classic Rock fans swallow anything a station throws at them doesn't make them a dream demographic. And talk about whining? Recliner bound quarterbacks and Talk show parrots have that covered.

By "whining," I refer to the fact that you modern rock listeners bitch about the stations for having too tight a playlist and not playing the "proper" music--and then you bitch about the stations when they flip formats, even after doing what you want them to do. You seem to think that they should cater to your own private whims instead of the majority of listeners.

First of all there's an old saying that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Meaning you only hear from the ones doing the whining. As for catering...well....listeners are ultimately the customer...companies pay radio stations for ad time...who are the ads for? The listener. If no one is listening what is the point?

For the record: HFS is doing SOO badly that CBS just applied for improvements to its signal.
