What if KGMB and KHNL hadn't merged?

I decided to open this Hawaii forum with this: What if KGMB and KHNL hadn't merged? Would both stations still have their own news department? Would KGMB had stayed on channel 9? And what about the Hawaii market as a whole?

Interestingly there's a third station that's associated with KGMB and KHNL its KFVE its another station that gets Hawaii News now too.
