Props to Tony Brown and WDAS for a great job on celebrating the life of Luther Vandross. It was a surprise, as he had been doing better and they put together a great show. They continue to play a special sweep into Luther songs.

It's a shame R&B stations and the media only remember Luther Vandross who passed away the same day with no or very little mention of Obie Benson of the Four Tops which I feel is a more viable artist being in one of the best R&B groups of all time. It's just Luther is more recent.

WPEN (950am) did play several of the 4 Tops tunes and
referenced his passing along with several other mentions
during the day.

Even KISS in NYC, WDAS-FM's sister station didn't mention Benson's
passing but once. I agree that should have been handled better by everyone.
The Four Tops are in the Hall of Fame for goodness sakes!
I didn't find out about his passing until yesterday afternoon.

Re: Tributes and this Board

Well, here on the Philadelphia radio board, last week the moderator posted the passing of one of the biggest legends in Philadelphia radio, Georgie Woods, and I was the only one to post any response. Harvey Holiday did a tribute to the Guy With the Goods last night on WOGL. The Inquirer has a big article on the funeral with praise from Dick Clark, Ed Bradley, etc. sighting Woods as influences in their careers. So we can't be too critical of others failing to give tribute to a long ago big name in their field, since Georgie Woods passing was pretty much ignored here.

It's usually the people with the influence or the first or pre- first that seems to be ignored. If it wasn't for them, there wouldn't have been a radio-info.com.

Emmis owns Kiss, not Clear Channel.
